When I met my wife I was 36 and at that period of time I relegated myself to the fact I would probably never find my life partner. Well, as many of you know I met my wife at a honkey tonk bar in Nashville,Tn.W e were both a little tipsy to say the least. And we ended up leaving the bar that night and you can use your imagination of what happened after that.

The next day she ended up flying back to Boston with her friend and then back to her hometown  of San Antonio  . I honestly felt like it was one of those one night stands and she felt the same way. Funny, how things can really happened when you least expect it.

We ended up calling back each other and over the next few months we would talk to each other almost every night. We seemed to click on the phone and  she decided to throw the dice….. ..so she flew back for New Years from San Antonio to Nashville to hang out with me. Well the visit went really,really  well. And we both hated to depart ways when the time came for her to leave. But our long distance relationship blossomed and before you know it we planned to move in together in Nashville that Summer. I proposed to her in October and we got married that following April in 2007 !!

Fast forward to 2008 and we had our first baby , beautiful Mackenzie Claire. And 14 months later we had are second precious little girl, Sophie Arlene.

Life is not always perfect but I can say this time has been the most remarkable and enriching part of my Life by a long shot.

I love my wife and children so dearly.

And I just want to wish my sweetie a very happy 5th Anniversary !!

Here are a few things you might do :

1. Plan on taking your sweetie to the most swankiest dining in town. Get reservations a day or two beforehand and live it up with a 100+ tab !!

2. From now until Valentines leave little notes around the house saying how much you love your sweetie and remind them what they mean to you and the great times you have had with each other

3. Nice jewelry especially for a women will always steal her heart and make her quite a happy young lady !

4. Its still the weekend so go take your sweetie on a short romantic  road trip that you will always remember. Do it up with some fine wine and cheese

5. Two dozen of the finest roses to your woman will always make her glow with excitement !! Spread some more roses around your  house and in your jacuzzi.

These are just a few things you can do for your better half on or before Valentines day. Also remember guys V. Days is more geared towards the woman in your life. Kind of like a Wedding Day !!

So do not underestimate the importance of this day. Believe, I have unperformed on V. day ( not in the bed and had a hard time living it down.

Be sincere and  dont make it too flashy. Rather  make it a fun and exciting Valentines day neither of you will forget !

With Online Dating you can never quite be sure who you are talking with or who  that person really is or even what he or she really looks like on the other end. There will be a lot of people who put up fake photos to try to portray someone they are not !!  Sometimes it can be a very frustrating process to do.

There are some dating sites that are quite legit and will weed out these bad apples . This along with the convenience are about the only two reasons why dating online can be worth it. But strange as it seems, I have had a couple of co-workers and friends who eventually stayed together after first meeting them online. But I had many other friends who experienced less than favorable outcomes with online dating.

I truly think when you are trying to find that soul mate or even just someone to hang out with then meeting them in person is the best way to do it. There are plenty of ways to meet people like this.  From Grocery stores to Church functions to baseball games……. the options seem to be almost endless.

As many of you know I met my Wife at a Honky Tonk Bar in Nashville over some beers. Now we are celebrating our 5 th year wedding Anniversary  in April and have two beautiful children to be thankful for.

The fact of the matter is no matter how far our technology has gotten us in the 21st century the fact remains the same…………..sometimes just reaching and meeting a person face to face for the first time is the best way to meet new people !! Not with a mouse 

Its 2012 and it is an exciting time right now. There is so much potential for each and everyone of you to meet more people and meet more potential lovers.Now  I am not talking about the promiscious type of loving but the actual love of your life.

I think one of the toughest things to realize especially in heterosexual relationships is that when two people come together it can be such a huge challenge. For instance, when two people get married all of the sudden they are committing their lives to another person. The degree of compromise can be overwhelming and many times this can lead to that BIG D !! And thats not D for Dallas !!

When people get in a serious relationship they need to learn that they will NOT have it their way all the time every time . This is just not realistic.

Here is a way that I learned awhile back that can keep your relationship   going strong and healthy :  Give 10% more than you think you should give to the relationship and accept 10% less than you feel like you deserve in the relationship. If each person can do this and really embrace this concept  then you will be two happy campers and there is no question about it. A very simple concept !!

So I leave you with that thought as you go into this great year of 2012. Sometimes its not what you receive in the relationship, its what you give.

I meantime, keep putting yourselves out there for meeting new people. Especially around this time of year ! There is a lot of warm and receptive  hearts with holiday cheer so that makes it a perfect time to ask out that single girl or guy for a date. And who knows it could end up in a serious relationship. Be confident of yourself and keep your head up high and shoulders lifted upward.

Lets make no doubt about it but the holiday season is a time for good cheer. And with that comes the possibility of meeting new people and the chance to fall in love. It is really a time when people have hopes for a bright tomorrow and there is a sense of Love in the air This happens to couples who have been married for over 50 years as  well as folks who are single and  still looking for someone.

So how do you really find that special someone ? Well, for one thing above anything else you have to do is you have put yourself out there !! I have so many  friends well into their fifties who are still alone and never met that special mate. Why ?? Because they did not put themselves out there enough to catch the right fish. They gave up way before they should have. And fizzled out much like a little star.

So to get away from being like this you need to go to things  like mixers, date agencies, clubs, church functions,  yes even bars, grocery stores etc..etc… In other wards you have to give the impression to others that you have a pulse and are open minded to having a relationship.

Lets dont make this hard folks. There is no reason why everyone on this planet cannot have that special someone in their Life.

I was in my mid to  late thirties when I met her. I thought at that time I would never find love and just relegated myself to a confirmed bachelor the rest of my life. OH my how things can really change. Now we have two beautiful daughters and we both are still madly in love with each other.

Its funny how things can work out that way for you. During my marriage,  I have also gone on to create several blogs that interest me including one for effective weight loss and how to speak spanish !

Anyway, I know many of  my friends have  tried to find love  but just were unsuccessful in finding their true soul mate. These are friends in their late fifties and early sixties. It is sure not easy, but I think if one wants to have a full committed relationship it can be accomplished in one way or the other !

First of all, you have to get yourself out there and be vulnerable. I am talking about putting all your self doubts and questions about yourself on hold. You cannot be afraid of failure. If one relationship does not work out then there will be always a potential one around the corner. So in some ways it can be looked at as a numbers game.

Secondly, you need to exhaust all avenues in pursuing love. My brother who is 52 years old  does not have anyone. No love , never married, no kids etc..etc… !!  The main reason he has no one is that he never pursued love at Church, at a Dating service, at Bars, at singles meeting etc..etc.. He hasn’t done any of this. Thus he will probably be alone the rest of his Life. So sad but easily avoidable !!

If you have this attitude you will NEVER find that soul mate !! PERIOD !!

So you folks looking for Love and haven’t found it , keep trying and put yourself and your spirit out there. Be vulnerable and you will be surprised that you just might find the person who you spend the rest of your Life with !! 

I hope some of you tried some of those ways like going to a singles program at Church or a Matchmaking Company. As we said earlier those can be really good places to find romance and love

Another good thing you must do, and I know many of us take it for granted, is having good hygeine and dressing for success.

I have known a couple of buddies of mine who literally wore cut of blue jeans and a tank top to their first date. Needless to say  they didn’t get a second date. Wearing Khakis, a Polo shirt and loafers will NEVER go out of style. If you want to scale it down a little bit you can with some cowboy boots , finally pressed wranglers , and a wrangler denim shirt to go with it.

Remember that good  hygeine  is so important in any romantic situation. Always  brush your teeth including gums and tongue as well as taking a thorough shower and and a good scrubbing of the face with exfoliating gel. Breath mints are also recommended.

And one last thing , particular to you guys out there. Be on time if you are picking up your date. Don’t make her wait. And if you are both meeting at a designated area then you both need to punctual.                                            No exceptions !

Anyway, hope these simple things make it easier for  you in the dating and love game. Its seems commonsense but you would be surprised how many people do not do them !!

Now there is nothing wrong with going out to a club or watering hole and relaxing and having a good time. But usually these kind of atmospheres offer casual relationships. But I think there are other places to meet that special someone in 2011. Places like Church gatherings or school functions can be a good start. Meeting people through friends or family members is another idea I will throw at you. Hopefully they know you well enough to set you up with a person who you are compatible with. Many people I know have met their Life partners exactly this way.

Also, dont rule out dating agencies and matchmakers. They do a lot of leg work to find people who have similar interests to you. And people have been having success with them for years now.

Bottom line for 2011 dont rule out any one way in meeting that special somebody. You might just end up like me and find your true love on the dance floor with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other !!

One way to make him love you forever is to never lose yourself in the relationship. Many well intentioned women do this and almost always it spells the end of the love and the strong connection. Your man needs and wants to know that you adore him but he also wants you to have your own interests and life. The more dynamic you are, the more he will love you. This is one of the reasons many marriages fail. Both partners become a shell of themselves after the marriage. They give up their own pursuits and passions in favor of spending all their time together. He may find you much more appealing if he has to sneak in time here and there to be with you. If your life is busy and full, he’ll love knowing that you make time for him as opposed to clearing your entire schedule and life for him. Keep your identity when you’re in a relationship. It’s vitally important to keeping the love alive and thriving.

Also, don’t focus on each and every small problem in the relationship. Women who do this are typically silently labeled as drama queens by their men. Their man pulls away out of fear that his actions will always be ridiculed. Pick your battles carefully and let small things slide. Men love women like this. They love knowing that they will be accepted flaws and all and that the woman the love isn’t expecting them to completely change for her.

Always be accepting of the other people in his life if you want him to love you forever. It’s not always possible to get along with every friend he has or every member of his family. Although you may expect or want him to take your side if there’s tension between you and someone else he loves, secretly he may resent you for putting him in that position. Work very hard at being respectful to everyone he cares for. He’ll love you more for it.
