Okay I know with the advent of the Internet in the last 15 years we have seen some pretty horrid stories about people running into some pretty nasty predicaments on the Worldwide web.
Yes, you know what I am talking about. Girl meets a guy online then decides to meet him in person and he ends up assaulting her or even worse.
Sometimes less serious things have happened which still has just intensified the scrutiny that people have about meeting potential mates on the Internet.
One popular thing is a person meets another person online and they decide to meet in person. Well, when the two meet one of them finds out to their disappointment that the other was inaccurate and even deceitful in describing themselves online.
Of course this makes everyone leery and I guess there is justification in this.
But lets not judge a whole group by just a few bad apples. Actually there are thousands upon thousands of cases that have occurred where two people meet online and then end up meeting in person and fall in love. And in some instances they do actually get Married.
But if you do socialize on the Internet there are a few things you should follow that will help you have a more pleasant experience and a safer one too.
1. NEVER give out too much personal info. to anyone you are talking and socializing on the Web with. We are talking about things like your Address, phone number, your full name, families names etc..etc..
Its just not safe and at least wait til you converse with this person in a more transparent environment ; minimum being at least via Phone.
2. DO NOT take everyone for face value. Even the nicest sounding person can be a scum undercover when conversing thru email or IM !! The internet provides a facade for many people who will use it to exploit you and do so for their own gains.
3. If you do decide to meet the individual in person please bring along a friend when you go out with them. Or at least agree to meet the person in a very public place with crowds of people around. NEVER go over to that persons house and NEVER let them come over to yours.
Basically just use common sense and you should be fine.
Like I have always said meeting thru the Internet can be a Medium that produces successful results in finding a romantic match for you. I personally know of several friends who are in committed relationships with people they met online.
So follow a few of these points above and just enjoy the fact that the Internet is such an accessible and efficient way to meet new and interesting people.
